Abstract
This study centers on the incorporation of climate change education into educational leadership and Management (DELM) programs, specifically examining the obstacles and hindrances encountered by educational leaders in integrating climate change education. The objective of the research is to examine efficient approaches for incorporating climate change education, establish principles for creating climate change education curricula, and evaluate the influence of professional development workshops on the implementation of climate change education.
The literature review focuses on the underlying factors and consequences of climate change, the significance of climate change education, and the involvement of educational leaders in tackling climate change. Furthermore, it emphasizes the necessity for thorough instruction, cooperation with specialists and institutions, and lobbying for policies in order to successfully include climate change education into school curriculum.
The curriculum structure of the Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management (DELM) is examined, with a focus on the importance of incorporating climate change education to tackle worldwide concerns. The project will employ a design-based implementation research approach and a mixed-method approach to collect and evaluate data.
The research was carried out in Mombasa and Kilifi, employing an online platform program as a component of the F4L effort. A range of data gathering techniques were utilized, such as surveys, document analysis, school observations, and focus group discussions. The study incorporated ethical issues and used measures to assure the validity and reliability of the findings.
The study's findings indicate that it is necessary to incorporate climate change education within the DELM curriculum. A workshop was convened to cater to this requirement, leading to a notable enhancement in the participants' understanding and self-assurance in spearheading climate change education initiatives. The successful implementation of climate change education initiatives in six schools exemplified the effective transfer of information and skills acquired from the workshop into practical application.
The study examines the influence of professional development workshops on climate change education in schools, emphasizing enhanced pedagogical techniques and a dedication to environmental education. The significant influence of professional development programs on teacher practice and the implementation of climate change education is highlighted.
In summary, the study offers useful insights into the difficulties and possibilities of incorporating climate change education into educational leadership programs. It also emphasizes the significant influence of professional development workshops on the implementation of climate change education.
