Abstract

This study investigated the contribution of inclusive practices on social-emotional development in early childhood education, focusing on a case study of Nyangao Primary School in southern part of Tanzania. Inclusive practices refer to the implementation of educational strategies that ensure the active participation and engagement of all students, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities. The social-emotional development of young children plays a crucial role in their overall well-being and future success. However, the extent to which inclusive practices can positively influence social-emotional development in the early childhood education context remains understudied. Drawing upon a qualitative research approach, this study explored the experiences and perspectives of educators, parents, and students at Nyangao Primary School. The research aimed to understand the specific inclusive practices employed at the school and their impact on the social-emotional development of young learners. Additionally, the study examined the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing inclusive practices in this particular educational setting. Data collection methods included interviews, focus groups, and observations, allowed for a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between inclusive practices and social-emotional development. Thematic analysis was employed to identify key themes and patterns in the data, providing insights into the efficacy of inclusive practices in fostering positive social-emotional outcomes for children. Findings from this study revealed that inclusive practices implemented at Nyangao primary school significantly contribute to the social-emotional development of young children. The findings of this study have the potential to inform educational policymakers, practitioners, and researchers about the importance of inclusive practices in early childhood education. By shedding light on the specific strategies that contribute to social-emotional development, the study can guide the design and implementation of inclusive programs in other educational settings. Ultimately, this research aimed to promote inclusive education as a means to enhance the social-emotional well-being of young learners and create a more equitable and supportive environment for all children in early childhood education.
