Abstract
The issue of out-of-school children in Pakistan is a significant challenge, driven by factors such as poverty, illiteracy, inadequate school infrastructure, and a shortage of qualified teachers. Despite various efforts to address this problem, innovative solutions remain essential. A solution which is accelerated, requires less resources and combats illiteracy. One such solution is Digital Games-Based Learning, which has the potential to enhance the educational experience for out-of-school children, particularly in the domain of mathematics. Mathematics is a fundamental subject that underpins many aspects of daily life. This case study seeks to explore the influence of Digital Game-Based Learning on the mathematical learning of out-of-school children. Adopting a qualitative research approach, the study utilizes semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis to collect data. The findings indicate that DGBL plays a significant role in both the cognitive and emotional development of out-of-school children, enhancing content retention, promoting critical thinking, alleviating mathematics anxiety, and sparking curiosity. These results underscore the potential of Digital Game Based Learning as an effective tool to overcome the educational issues faced by out-of-school children in Pakistan.
