Abstract
In the year 2000, governments around the world pledged to support a global commitment to eight goals which would enable access and equity to improve the lives of all. These are referred to as the Millennium Development Goals or MDGs. One of the goals is linked directly to education, which is goal number two-Achieve Universal Primary Education with the target of ensuring that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling. This chapter looks at the attainment of the goal with respect to teaching English in Sub-Saharan Africa.
