Abstract
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education–International (ACGME-I), a global affiliate of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), extends accreditation services to institutions outside the US. ACGME-I aims to promote excellence in graduate medical education through competency-based training, structured learning environments, and robust faculty development.1 Launched in 2009, ACGME-I accreditation has expanded to 12 countries across 3 continents as of 2023.2 Implementing ACGME-I standards in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) presents distinct challenges, including infrastructure limitations, inadequate financial and human resources, and the need to align international requirements with local regulatory frameworks.
