Abstract

Background: objectives Identify common health issues in school age children. Plan to create awareness about Health among student and their families Explain the preventive measures for common health issues A number of children can be saved from losing interest in their studies and dropping out of school when their learning difficulties or disorders are detected through health screening and addressed at early stages. Collaboration between health and education sectors is crucial for this component of school health program. Health screening of students includes regular basis Referral of students with health problems to medical centers for treatment or rehabilitation De-worming campaigns. The purpose of this study was to identify the most common issues among student and enhance their knowledge about the preventive measures.

Methods: A total of 430 students were screened by applying correct tools and techniques. Common health issues were identified. Severe cases which needed immediate attention were referred to the Rotary clinic while the rest of the issues were prioritized for the health teaching.

Results: One major issue was Pediculosis on which one group worked. The knowledge level of the community and school students was assessed before and after health education. Before the health education the knowledge level was 40% and after health education session the knowledge level was 100%. The health education session was conducted on Mashal Model School and also door to door in community.

Conclusions: This study identified the effects of Pediculosis on health faced by the Mashal Model school student. This is critically important issues since Pediculosis can lead to many physical and psychological problems.
