Abstract

Pakistan has portrayed a variety of gender representations since the inception of cinema and dramas. In historical media, gender roles have begun to change. The discussion in the chapter specifically focuses on how transgender and non-binary people are portrayed in Pakistani media in a diverse and acceptable way, which suddenly transformed due to ideological differences. This chapter also aims to offer information that will make it easier to see how a failure to comprehend gender roles resulted in the reversal and potential cancelation of the 2018 Transgender Bill of Rights. However, the media and civil society’s role remains strong in bringing this dark moment into real-time legal status for the community and its people, with many of ongoing efforts and activism.
