Abstract
Overview
The goal of this workshop is to provide participants with an overview of how performance-based assessments can be constructed, administered, and scored. Standardized patient (SP) and mannequin-based exercises will be highlighted.
Learning objectives
Following the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Choose appropriate simulation modalities for the competencies that they wish to evaluate,
- Understand, critique, and evaluate the design of performance-based exercises,
- Know the strengths and weaknesses of holistic (global) and analytic scoring systems and recognize where they can be best employed to gather valid and reliable assessment data,
- Select appropriate scoring strategies and propose defensible data collection methods for typical simulation scenarios.
