Teaching and learning in 21st Century: An e-learning insight
Location
CHS Tutorial Room 3
Start Date
26-1-2013 3:30 PM
Abstract
“It is no longer a question of whether or not we will implement e-learning in our schools, but whether we will do it well.” Technologies of the Web 2.0 are changing the ways students connect, interact, and share their lives. Teachers must be proficient in online teaching and learning tools in order to improve their teaching and maximize learning opportunities of their students especially in higher education like medicine. It really doesn’t take too long to figure out what tools are important to you in your professional life and what instructional design could be used in your traditional and virtual classrooms. Fortunately, most of these tools are free and easy to use and can be mastered with little or no help. The key part is to be thinking about the pedagogical aspects and to start creating opportunities for students to use these tools in their learning. The goal of this workshop is to introduce some of the online tools that are being used successfully by teachers, and to reflect on how these tools could be used in teaching and learning. Allowing students to use these tools can give them some new and exciting ways of learning and at the same time can provide alternatives for matching activities with different learning styles. Free Online tools covered in the workshop: • Webinar / Live Web conference • Online tests • Live Collaborative white boards • Data repositories • Audience Response System (instant student feedback) • e-Portfolio / Forums • Social Networks • Online virtual Class • Virtual Learning Environment • Live Streaming / Broadcasting • Teacher Learning tools
Objectives
At the end of session participants will be able to describe usages of different type of online teaching tools (all free) and reflect on how these tools could be used in teaching and learning.
