Start Date

Abstract

Qualitative research method is considered to be suitable when the researcher or the investigator either explores new field of study or aims to identify and conceptualize prominent issues. Qualitative methods are developed to have an in depth and broad understanding of the issues by means of their textual interpretation. The uniqueness of sampling in qualitative research is that the researcher generally do not focus on the representativeness of the sample but to choose or assemble those samples or particular cases that can help in further clarification and strengthen the understanding on the issue. As the basis of qualitative research is not the generalizability of findings but the transferability of results and therefore non probability purposive sampling is employed. Like any research, qualitative also encompasses the criteria of validity and reliability.

Objectives

  • To determine the origins of qualitative research
  • To determine the methods of doing qualitative research
  • To determine quality in qualitative research by doing appropriate sampling and analysis of data
