Introduction:

This workshop is designed for health care professionals who would like to manage obesity in their clinical settings. It aims to increase practical knowledge and skills among healthcare professionals to identify different levels of obesity and its management. Specific aspects of obesity management that would be covered in the workshop include assessment of patients and diet, physical activity prescription.

Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of managing obesity
  • The participants would learn to correctly assess level of obesity in patients using different tools, indices and cut-offs for diagnosis of obesity
  • Learn to write a diet plan using a food exchange list for weight management of patients
  • Learn to advise patients on increasing physical activity levels and assessing compliance in patients

At the end of workshop the participants should be able to know:

  • Assess dietary intake and physical activity levels of their patients
  • Prescribe diet and physical activity and diet plan for weight loss
  • Interpret body composition analyser output and use it for diagnosis of obesity
