Quality of Life in Asthmatic Individuals using QoL Questionnaire
Lecture Hall-1
Description
Background: Asthma accounts for 1% of total Global disease burden. Uncontrolled asthma is one of the most common conditions for frequent emergency room visits.
Objective: To assess the quality of life (QoL) in asthmatic individuals in association with risk factors using the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ).
Methodology: It is cross sectional study . Asthma Quality of life questionnaire is grouped on the basis of score . Poor (1-3.9) Good (>4.0-6.9),Moderate(4.0), Best ( 7). Chi square test was applied and P value less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant
Results: Out of the 220 patients taken 134 were female and 86 were male. FEVI/FVC ratio was 55.92 ±16.68.The mean age of patients at the time of diagnosis of asthma was 39.27±15.23. Factors that found to statistically significant with poor AQLQ score are lack of education ( p=0.003) Occupational status (p=0.04), Pets at home (p=0.002),number of people living in house (p .001) allergic rhinitis (p 0.03), duration of diagnosis of asthma more than 5 years ( p .007) , active smoking (p 0.019) and passive smoking (p n0.015) . When asthma control was compared with AQLQ score a significant severity correlation was found,69.9% of the patients with poor score were with uncontrolled asthma (p=0.000).
Conclusion: The Quality of life in asthmatic can be better by bringing little change in life routine and controlling the factor that can worsen the symptom of asthma
